Body recovered from Willamette River, marking sixth recovery in Portland area since April

Portland, ORLocal News

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has recovered a body from the Willamette River, marking the sixth recovery in the Portland area within three weeks. This body will be examined by the medical examiner to establish identity and cause of death. Deputy John Plock emphasized that the number of recoveries is statistically consistent with previous years, noting similar trends in April 2024. Several factors, including warmer water temperatures, are accelerating the decomposition process, causing bodies to rise to the surface more quickly. Additionally, as weather improves, more people engage in water activities, increasing the likelihood of discovering previously submerged remains.

Recent recoveries include bodies found in various locations, including the Columbia River and the Multnomah Channel. The sheriff's office continues to monitor the situation closely and will update the public as new information arises. The community is encouraged to report any further discoveries.
