Elephant calf Tula-Tu turns two months old at Oregon Zoo!
Tula-Tu, the Oregon Zoo's newest Asian elephant calf, has officially turned two months old, marking a significant milestone in her early life. Initially weighing around 200 pounds, Tula has gained considerable weight and is now estimated to be about 355 pounds. The young calf is already demonstrating impressive trunk dexterity, a skill that has zoo staff excited about her development. Steve Lefave, who oversees the elephant area, described Tula as "precocious," highlighting her advanced abilities for her age. The name Tula, which means balance in Sanskrit, symbolizes the zoo's dedication to conservation and the importance of species preservation.
This celebration not only brings joy to the zoo's visitors but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to protect endangered species worldwide. As Tula-Tu continues to grow, her journey will serve as a focal point for educational programs aimed at raising awareness about conservation. The zoo's efforts underscore the critical role such institutions play in wildlife preservation and education.
