Clark County crash leaves one dead, police seek witnesses

Portland, ORLocal News

A devastating two-car accident occurred on March 27 on NE Highway 99 in Clark County, resulting in the death of 56-year-old Kimberly Butler from Vancouver. The incident involved a Lexus RX400, driven by 20-year-old Diego Quintana, who was reportedly speeding at over 80 mph in a 40 mph zone when he collided with Butler's Toyota Camry. The impact was severe enough to send the Camry crashing into a power pole, causing significant damage and leading to Butler's death shortly after the incident. Bystanders played a crucial role in detaining Quintana until authorities arrived, as he attempted to flee the scene with his passengers. Detectives suspect that Quintana may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, prompting a Drug Recognition Expert to assess him.

Following treatment at a medical facility, Quintana was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run resulting in death, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest. The Clark County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating and is reaching out for additional witnesses, especially regarding the two passengers in the Lexus. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Patrick Spak.
