On December 26, 2024, a serious hit-and-run incident occurred in Woodburn, Oregon, leading to the death of Nicolas Hernandez-Mendoza, a 44-year-old resident. The accident transpired around 8:48 PM at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Williams Avenue, where Hernandez-Mendoza was legally crossing in a marked crosswalk. After being struck by a light-colored SUV, he was rushed to Salem Hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect vehicle made a right turn onto Williams Avenue before fleeing the scene by turning left onto Carol Street. The Woodburn Police Department is urging the public for assistance in identifying the vehicle and encourages anyone with surveillance footage or eyewitness information to reach out to Detective Logan Baker at 503-982-2345.
