Vancouver firefighters face electric shocks while rescuing victim from fallen powerline
On December 27, 2024, a significant powerline collapse in Vancouver, Washington, created a chaotic scene with multiple fires and injuries. The Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched at 9:09 p. m. to 616 Ash St. , where they discovered a trapped victim and a large powerline on the ground.
During the rescue, three firefighters experienced electric shocks due to high voltage in the area. The critically injured victim received immediate medical treatment from fire department personnel and American Medical Response paramedics before being transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Power company officials cut electricity to the neighborhood, allowing firefighters to extinguish the RV fire and another fire in the main house. Of the three injured firefighters, two were cleared to return to duty, while one remained in the hospital overnight for observation.
