Vancouver firefighters face electric shocks while rescuing victim from fallen powerline

On December 27, 2024, a significant powerline collapse in Vancouver, Washington, led to multiple fires, including one that engulfed an RV. The Vancouver Fire Department was dispatched at 9:09 p. m. and faced a hazardous scene during the rescue of an incapacitated victim, resulting in three firefighters sustaining electric shocks from high voltage currents. After receiving emergency medical treatment, the victim was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in critical condition.

The local power company cut off electricity to the neighborhood, enabling firefighters to extinguish the fires safely. Fortunately, two of the injured firefighters returned to duty after evaluation, while one remained in the hospital for observation overnight. The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of the incident, highlighting the dangers first responders face during emergencies involving electrical hazards.
