Highway 101 bridge near Manzanita to close for emergency repairs

Portland, ORLocal News

The Necarney Creek Bridge along Highway 101 is set to close for emergency repairs at 7 a. m. on Saturday, September 21, following a partial collapse that occurred in August. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that the bridge will be shut down for 36 hours while crews work to remove concrete hanging below the span. The collapse, which is believed to have been caused by a car, did not affect the overall structural integrity of the bridge, although it did damage the guardrails and sidewalk.

ODOT had previously implemented a single-lane traffic pattern as a safety measure. Traffic delays are expected, and drivers are advised to use detours via Oregon Route 53 to Highway 26 or Highway 101 to Oregon Route 6. The agency's immediate goal is to reopen the bridge quickly, with plans for more permanent repairs scheduled for a later date. ODOT's prompt response highlights the importance of maintaining safe infrastructure along the Oregon Coast. As the weekend approaches, travelers should plan accordingly to avoid significant delays.
