Physicians file $15M antitrust lawsuit against major Oregon health system

Portland, ORLocal News

Oregon Heart Center (OHC) has filed a $15 million antitrust and defamation lawsuit against Salem Health in Marion County Circuit Court. The cardiology practice claims that Salem Health is using intimidation tactics and spreading false information to eliminate competition in the healthcare market. According to the complaint, Salem Health is attempting to coerce OHC into merging with its system or forcing it out of business altogether. This alleged behavior has reportedly caused significant harm to OHC and the broader Salem healthcare community. A spokesperson for Salem Health acknowledged being informed of the lawsuit but refrained from commenting further.

The lawsuit also names Salem Health CEO Cheryl Wolfe as a defendant, emphasizing the systemic issues that may arise from the consolidation of healthcare services. Salem Health operates the only hospital in Salem and has been aggressively expanding its network of doctors and clinics. This situation raises critical questions about the balance of power in healthcare and the potential for monopolistic practices to undermine patient care.
