City of Portland Provides Update on Camping Enforcement November 13-19
The City of Portland resumed targeted enforcement of its camping ordinance on November 1, focusing on connecting individuals to shelter and supportive services. Between November 13 and 19, officers contacted 63 campsites, engaging 98 people, of whom 92 were found in violation of the ordinance. The city issued 70 warnings and 8 citations, while 18 individuals accepted shelter services, transitioning from street camping to overnight accommodations. Earlier this year, enforcement was paused to improve shelter capacity and refine a service-first approach, coordinating with outreach teams and public safety partners. The city will provide an update in two weeks detailing all citations issued during this enforcement period.
Residents are encouraged to report encampments via 311 or the city’s reporting portal rather than calling 911. For immediate assistance with individuals in crisis, the Portland Street Response can be contacted. More information about the ordinance and available services can be found on the city's official website.
