Portlands illuminated martini glass in the West Hills

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland's iconic illuminated martini glass will shine once more this holiday season, symbolizing a cherished local tradition. The original sign was built by the Martini family, who lit it up to announce parties in the West Hills. After their departure, neighbor Monty Meadows took the initiative to create a larger version, which he and his father improved over the years. When the property changed hands again, architect Aaron Hall recognized the sign's value and committed to its restoration. In 2015, Hall unveiled a modern, three-story version that incorporates LED technology and a stuffed olive, enhancing its visibility and design.

The sign's return is highly anticipated, with community members expressing their eagerness for its illumination each year. Hall, despite not drinking, demonstrates his cocktail-making skills for guests, adding a personal touch to the tradition. This enduring symbol of holiday cheer highlights Portland's unique community spirit.
