Portland's search for its first long-term city administrator has reached its final stage, with three finalists selected: Maurice Henderson II, Raymond Lee III, and Valerie Washington. The candidates will interview with Mayor Keith Wilson and city councilors this week, with Wilson considering their feedback before making a recommendation to the city council. The administrator will manage an $8. 6 billion budget and lead over 6,500 city employees across vital areas such as public safety and economic development. This role is pivotal in the city's new governance structure, which aims to enhance operational efficiency.

Michael Jordan, the current administrator, is set to retire, having agreed to stay on during the transition. The new administrator is expected to begin their tenure by January 2026, ensuring continuity in city management. The recruitment process involved nearly 100 applicants, demonstrating the high level of interest in the position. Strategic Government Resources facilitated the selection process, highlighting the importance of effective leadership in city operations.
