City of Portland Provides Update on Camping Enforcement Nov. 6-12

Portland, ORLocal News

The City of Portland resumed enforcement of its camping ordinance on November 1, emphasizing the importance of connecting individuals to shelter and supportive services. During the week of November 6-12, officers contacted 44 campsites, engaging with 77 individuals. This outreach resulted in 60 violations of the camping ordinance, leading to 59 warnings and 2 citations. Additionally, there were 12 arrests for other offenses, and 14 individuals accepted shelter services, marking a shift from street camping to overnight accommodations. Earlier this year, enforcement was paused to expand shelter capacity and improve the service-first approach.

Outreach teams collaborate with shelter operators and public safety partners to conduct individualized assessments before enforcement actions. The city plans to provide further updates on issued citations next week. For more information on the camping ordinance and available services, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website.
