Portland City Councilor Mitch Green Joins Pledge to Investigate Local Complicity with Israeli Military

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland City Councilor Mitch Green has signed a pledge to investigate the city's involvement in the manufacturing and transport of weapons to Israel, aiming to challenge U. S. complicity in Israel's occupation of Palestine. Six other councilors have also signed the pledge, which will be publicly announced during a virtual press conference scheduled for October 17 at 1:00 p. m.

PDT. Green, a veteran and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, emphasizes the direct link between local militarization and U. S. foreign policy. He stated, "For my entire adult life, I have witnessed the federal government pour trillions of dollars into a machine that wages war on a global scale.

" The pledge commits signatories to investigate city contracts with companies supporting Israeli military actions and scrutinize any diplomatic ties with Israel. This municipal approach aims to disrupt the flow of weapons and funding that support the occupation. By leveraging local government power, the initiative seeks to lay groundwork for concrete policy changes. The press conference will require registration for both media and the public.
