Extra erosion control measures are required starting in October

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland will enforce stricter erosion control measures for construction sites starting October 1, coinciding with the rainy season. With these new rules, construction sites must prevent dirt and sediments from escaping, which can harm local waterways. An on-site erosion and sediment control manager is required to conduct inspections weekly and document adherence to regulations. Inspections must also occur within 24 hours of rain exceeding half an inch, as measured by the nearest active rain gauge. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to environmental stewardship and safeguarding water quality.

These measures will remain in place through April 30, ensuring adequate oversight during the wettest months. The city emphasizes that compliance is essential for reducing sediment pollution. This regulation aligns with broader efforts to enhance sustainability in urban development practices.
