Portland Street Response adds new phone number, expands hours

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland Street Response is set to enhance its operations with a new phone number and extended hours, effective October 1. Individuals experiencing mental health crises can now call 911 or 503-823-7773 from 6 a. m. to midnight, seven days a week. Trained 911 call takers will manage both lines, ensuring rapid response to community needs.

Interim Program Manager April Roa expressed excitement about the new developments, stating that the initiative showcases effective collaboration with the Portland Bureau of Emergency Communications. The program targets individuals in various states of crisis, including those exhibiting disorganized behavior or lacking access to resources. However, it will not assist individuals who are actively suicidal or displaying violent conduct. This change aims to improve public safety and provide essential support for mental health emergencies. The expansion reflects ongoing efforts to address the growing demand for mental health services in the community.
