The City of Portland releases three scenarios for natural resource protection in the Columbia Corridor and other industrial lands in the city
Portland's CCIL Ezone Project aims to update environmental overlay zones in the Columbia Corridor to safeguard natural resources while supporting industrial development. The project proposes three scenarios—Minimum Compliance, Climate Resilient, and Maximum Resource Protection—each with different strategies for applying environmental overlays. The Minimum Compliance scenario maintains current coverage, while the Climate Resilient scenario increases coverage by about 5%. The Maximum Resource Protection scenario seeks to enhance buffer zones around water features significantly. Stakeholder input is essential as the project team assesses the trade-offs between resource protection and industrial land supply.
Public feedback will inform the Proposed Draft, which will undergo review by the Planning Commission and City Council. This effort is part of a citywide strategy to ensure that job growth does not compromise environmental integrity. The project reflects Portland's commitment to sustainable development practices.
