82nd Ave in Motion A Tour of Community-Led and Climate Investments
The 82nd Avenue in Motion Tour highlights the collaboration of local organizations and public agencies in Portland to enhance climate resilience and community benefits. APANO’s initiatives include installing heat pump cooling units for vulnerable residents and improving energy efficiency in over 1,700 affordable housing units. Portland Community College, alongside the Bureau of Fleet & Facilities, works to expand access to trades education while replacing outdated city assets with energy-efficient alternatives. AYCO’s solar panel installation will reduce carbon footprints and enable the organization to serve as an emergency center for more than 300 families. The program also emphasizes urban greening through sidewalk expansions and tree planting along 82nd Avenue, prioritizing large tree species for enhanced shade.
These projects align with the City of Portland's Climate Emergency Workplan, addressing both environmental and social needs. The tour invites community members to explore these initiatives and their impact. The collaborative approach fosters a community vision rooted in sustainability and resilience.
