Portland, ORLocal News

The Street Services Coordination Center (SSCC) reported assisting 34 individuals with shelter referrals last week, with 20 accepting the offers. Seven people utilized a shelter bed for at least one night, reflecting ongoing support for those experiencing homelessness in Portland. From August 18-24, the Impact Reduction Program received 2,549 new campsite reports and assessed approximately 849 campsites across the region. Out of these, 148 campsites that posed significant health and safety risks were removed, with personal property safely stored for affected individuals. Multnomah County declared a state of emergency due to extreme heat on August 22, which temporarily halted campsite removals until conditions improved.

The SSCC collaborates with various city departments to streamline services and expedite cleanup in a compassionate manner. Since April 2022, the program has offered 7,838 shelter referrals, with 2,507 individuals using a shelter bed. The SSCC continues to strive for innovative solutions to support people living outside while expanding long-term access to safe and affordable housing.
