Rideshare driver rescued from sinking car in Morgan Creek after wrong turn during storm

Portland, ORLocal News

A rideshare driver, Peter Giusti, encountered a life-threatening situation on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina, when heavy rain caused him to drive into Morgan Creek after a wrong turn. Despite being a seasoned driver with nearly 10,000 trips, Giusti was caught off guard by the sudden flooding. After dropping off a passenger, he accepted another ride, unaware of the perilous conditions ahead. Water rapidly filled his car, reaching his chest, but two good Samaritans intervened, pulling him to safety just in time. Giusti criticized the lack of signage and lighting at the location, noting that he was not the first to experience such a mishap.

Isle of Palms Police offer safety tips for similar situations, urging individuals to unbuckle, break a window, and swim to safety. The incident underscores the risks associated with driving in adverse weather and the pressing need for better safety measures in the area. Giusti is currently working with his insurance, reflecting on the importance of survival over material loss.
