Portland Fire & Rescue to honor the lives lost on 9/11

Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) will host a remembrance ceremony at Station 1 on September 11, 2024, to honor the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks. Each PF&R station will observe two moments of silence at 6:58 a. m. and 7:28 a. m.

, commemorating the exact times when the South and North Towers fell. The main ceremony at Station 1 will commence at 10 a. m. and will feature speakers from the Portland City Council and the Portland Firefighters Association (IAFF Local 0043). Attendees can also look forward to a poignant bagpipe performance and a fireboat display on the Willamette River.

For the 11th consecutive year, PF&R is collaborating with the American Red Cross to conduct a blood drive at Station 1, which will run from 8 a. m. to 2 p. m. Donors can register online with the code PortlandFire, although walk-ins are also accepted.

This event not only serves as a solemn remembrance of the tragedy but also promotes community engagement through the act of donating blood.
