Daytime Cooling Centers Reopen In Portland Tuesday Amid Extreme Heat Wave

Portland, ORLocal News

Multnomah County declared a state of emergency due to extreme heat, with temperatures reaching around 100 degrees. Three daytime cooling centers and four library branches will remain open to offer respite from the heat. These centers will operate from noon to 9 pm Tuesday, providing food and water, and allowing pets. TriMet confirmed it will not deny service for lack of fare for those heading to or from cooling centers between 11 am and 10 pm. Health experts stress the importance of seeking relief from the heat, particularly for vulnerable populations like pregnant individuals.

Residents can access a countywide map for additional cooling options. The reopening of these centers reflects the county's commitment to public safety during extreme weather events. For transportation help or to find a cooling space, residents can dial 2-1-1.
