Jesse Calhoun's arraignment on Monday follows his indictment for the November 2022 murder of Kristin Smith, whose remains were found in February 2023. The indictment was issued by a Multnomah County grand jury on August 5, 2025. Calhoun faces additional murder charges for the deaths of Charity Lynn Perry, Joanna Speaks, and Bridget Leanne Webster, which were filed in May 2024, with a not guilty plea entered for those crimes. He was apprehended in June 2023 due to unrelated parole warrants. Additionally, Calhoun is a person of interest in the case of Ashley Real, whose body was discovered in April 2023.

Prosecutors have not revealed the new evidence prompting the latest charge against him. Concerns about the lengthy timeline for his trial, set for 2027, continue to grow among the community and victims' families. The case highlights ongoing issues surrounding serial killings and the justice system's response.
