Volunteers improve Cathedral Park for wildlife and recreation
Volunteers gathered at Cathedral Park in Portland to enhance recreational space and improve fish habitats. The Human Access Project, in partnership with SOLVE, has successfully removed 150 tons of concrete from the river's edge since 2021. Willie Levinson, the project's Ringleader, noted the recent removal of 225 derelict piles, which have degraded the beach area. This cleanup effort aims to improve accessibility for recreational users while enhancing shallow water habitats for local fish species. SOLVE successfully recruited 75 volunteers for this event, showcasing strong community engagement in environmental efforts.
Levinson emphasized the ongoing nature of the project and the need for more volunteers through the newly established Beach Brigade program. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to transforming urban spaces into environmentally friendly areas. Community involvement is crucial, and Levinson invites anyone interested to join the Human Access Project.
