Police identify pedestrian struck, killed during multi-scene crash in NE Portland
Authorities identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident in Northeast Portland as 49-year-old DaRon V. Craig. The incident occurred around 11:45 a. m. on Thursday when a speeding Ford Escape struck Craig and another pedestrian on the sidewalk of NE Martin Luther King Jr.
Blvd. Craig died at the scene, while the second pedestrian suffered critical injuries but is now stable. Police have not identified the driver, who was also hospitalized along with another motorist involved in the crash. Investigators are exploring the details, noting that the driver has two prosthetic legs, although it remains uncertain if this contributed to the accident. Initially reported as specially modified for a handicapped driver, police later clarified that the vehicle was only equipped with a platform on the trailer hitch.
No arrests or citations have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact them regarding the case.
