Give testimony on draft proposals to increase the supply of affordable housing

Portland, ORLocal News

The Affordable Housing Opportunities Project (AHOP) proposes zoning changes in Portland to meet the urgent need for affordable housing. This initiative focuses on properties owned by nonprofit organizations and public agencies, aiming to eliminate zoning barriers that hinder housing development. Community feedback during the draft phase indicated strong support for expanding affordable housing, though concerns arose regarding three specific sites. The Rose Community Development Corporation requested zoning changes for Beyer Court and Greenview Terrace, which have been incorporated into the Proposed Draft. The Portland Planning Commission is set to review these proposals during a hearing on August 26, encouraging public input through written and verbal testimony.

Interested residents can submit written comments through the project’s Map App or register for verbal testimony. AHOP is part of Portland's broader Housing Production Strategy, emphasizing the need for diverse housing options. The project aims to enhance the role of nonprofit housing providers in addressing the city's housing crisis.
