EMS crews compete in high-stakes safety challenge in Oregon

Portland, ORLocal News

American Medical Response (AMR) organized a Clinical Safety Competition at the Oregon Institute of Technology's Portland Metro Campus, featuring five elite EMS crews. The competition included skill stations such as a timed Emergency Vehicle Operators Course and various medical scenarios to enhance clinical decision-making. Three ground ambulance teams participated, demonstrating their expertise under competitive pressure. Alice Boggs, AMR Clark County chief of clinical education, emphasized that the event was both rigorous and enjoyable, showcasing the teamwork that keeps patients safe. Carmen Kurtz, interim chair of the Department of EMS, highlighted the additional pressure of performing in front of colleagues compared to regular emergency calls.

The top two teams will advance to AMR's national finals in Mineral Wells, Texas, this October. This event reinforces AMR's commitment to safety and excellence in emergency medical services. Such competitions not only enhance skills but also foster camaraderie among EMS professionals across the region.
