Alaska Airlines resume operations after three-hour ground stop

Portland, ORLocal News

Alaska Airlines lifted a three-hour system-wide ground stop on July 20 due to IT issues, allowing operations to resume by 11 p. m. Pacific. The Seattle-based airline requested the ground stop, which affected both Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights. As the airline worked to reposition aircraft and crews, it warned passengers of possible residual delays.

By 5:30 a. m. the next day, only two flights at Portland International Airport (PDX) were experiencing delays. Alaska Airlines expressed regret for the inconvenience and advised guests to check flight statuses before heading to the airport. The airline has not disclosed the cause of the IT outage, which created significant disruptions.

Ground stops like this can lead to cascading delays throughout the airline's network, affecting travelers nationwide. Timely communication from airlines during such incidents is crucial for passenger planning and satisfaction.
