A man was shot dead in the parking lot of a Safeway grocery store in Northeast Portland on Friday afternoon. Police responded to the scene shortly before 4 p. m. , discovering the victim inside a vehicle. Witnesses, including Michelle Etier, reported hearing three or four gunshots and described the scene as chaotic.

Etier noted that she initially thought the sounds were celebratory fireworks due to the recent Fourth of July holiday. Officers attempted CPR on the victim but were unable to save him. Police detained a suspect who was reportedly in a white van and took him to a hospital for evaluation. Despite witness accounts, authorities reaffirmed that the man was found dead inside the vehicle. The investigation continues as police seek additional information regarding the incident.
