Oregon family unlawfully detained by federal agents near Canadian border, Rep. Dexter says

Portland, ORLocal News

U. S. Rep. Maxine Dexter claims that an Oregon family has been unlawfully detained by Customs and Border Protection near the Canadian border. The situation began in late June when a woman was arrested in Peace Arch Park while allegedly trying to smuggle illegal aliens into the United States.

Her children were with her at the time, and Dexter argues that they are being held without justification. Currently, the family is in custody in Ferndale, Washington. Dexter emphasized that "CBP does not have the authority to detain people long term," indicating that the prolonged detention is concerning. The complexity of the case has led to a drawn-out process, according to CBP. KATU is actively working to verify the family's names and immigration status.

This case raises significant questions about the enforcement practices of federal agents and the rights of detained individuals.
