Congrats to the Neighborhood Tree Stewards Class of 2025

Portland, ORLocal News

The 2025 cohort of Neighborhood Tree Stewards (NTS) graduated on June 21, expanding the network to 500 alumni committed to Portland's urban forestry. Over seven weeks, participants gathered to explore the city's tree canopy and learn about shade equity through a series of classes held at various locations. Topics included tree identification, pruning, and community engagement, with guest lectures and hands-on activities enhancing the learning experience. Participants praised the program for its ability to inspire and deepen their understanding of tree stewardship. The NTS initiative plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy urban forest in a city boasting nearly 4 million trees.

This year, graduates are equipped to support tree stewardship efforts at Urban Forestry events and in their neighborhoods. The program is offered annually, and those interested in participating next year can sign up for the 2026 interest list. Community engagement remains a key focus, as residents work together to care for their urban environment.
