Councilor Avalos July 2025 Newsletter

Portland, ORLocal News

The Portland City Council unanimously approved a resolution to expand the Portland Street Response (PSR) program, establishing it as a co-equal branch of the public safety system. This initiative, co-sponsored by Councilors Avalos, Kanal, and Morillo, commits to providing 24/7 citywide services and creating a PSR Community Advisory Committee. The resolution also ensures that PSR will not be involved in enforcement activities, focusing instead on community care. Councilor Avalos highlighted the importance of this step in building a public safety system rooted in compassion. In addition to the PSR expansion, the updated schedule for Constituent Days invites residents to engage with their representatives directly.

These events aim to strengthen community ties and address local concerns. The Housing & Homelessness Committee will meet on July 22 to discuss community feedback and recommendations for housing development. This comprehensive approach reflects a commitment to reimagining public safety and housing solutions in Portland.
