12th Annual Dunn's Duffers Charity Golf Tournament
The 12th annual Dunn's Duffers Charity Golf Tournament raised funds for the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and Southwest Washington, attracting 144 participants to Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. The American Cancer Society projects that 20,890 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2025, with over 12,700 expected to die from the disease. Steve Dunn, who initiated the event, underscored the necessity for women to advocate for their health when experiencing unusual symptoms. Anna DeMers, president of the Alliance, highlighted the importance of communication about symptoms with partners and healthcare providers. The tournament's growth from 50 participants in its first year to 144 demonstrates the increasing community involvement in cancer awareness.
Dunn emphasized that discussing symptoms can lead to early detection, as many women may not recognize the signs of ovarian cancer. The event not only raises funds but also educates participants on the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare. Such initiatives play a crucial role in addressing the rising rates of ovarian cancer diagnoses.
