City of Portland deploys solar-powered charging system for City electric vehicles

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland has launched three solar-powered EV ARC™ 2020 charging stations to improve electric vehicle charging options in the city. These off-grid units generate renewable energy and reduce operating costs, offering enhanced emergency power capabilities. Director Maty Sauter highlighted the significance of these mobile stations in supporting the city’s climate goals and addressing carbon emissions from transportation. The deployment is funded by the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund, which aims to benefit low-income residents and communities of color. Two of the stations will serve temporary locations until permanent installations are completed, while one is permanently located at the Bureau of Emergency Management to support emergency operations.

CityFleet seeks to achieve a net-zero carbon fleet by 2050, aiming to convert 700 vehicles to battery-electric by July 2029. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to install at least 300 charging ports at various city sites. The project underscores Portland's commitment to innovative climate solutions and improved air quality.
