Oregon Military Museum set to reopen with new exhibits and immersive experiences

Portland, ORLocal News

The Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycomb in Clackamas will reopen on July 12, offering an enhanced experience with new exhibits. The centerpiece, titled "We are Oregon," seeks to connect visitors with the region's military history and the contributions of local service members. The museum houses over 14,000 artifacts, including a meticulously restored Korean War-era F-86 fighter jet and a weapons exhibit featuring over 80 small arms. Director Kathleen Sligar emphasized the museum's commitment to authenticity, using genuine items such as sandbags and ammo crates throughout the displays. The project has been in development since 2008, funded by state dollars and private donations.

Volunteers, including veterans, played a crucial role in preparing the museum for its reopening. Admission will be free, and the museum will welcome visitors from Wednesday to Saturday. This initiative aims to deepen public appreciation of Oregon's military heritage.
