FOR ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A NEW CHAPTER 3.48 MULTIFAMILY PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION OF THE PORT ORCHARD MUNICIPAL CODE

Port Orchard, WALocal News

The City of Port Orchard plans to adopt an ordinance creating a new Multifamily Property Tax Exemption (MFTE) program to boost the development of multifamily housing. This program specifically targets affordable housing in designated residential areas and includes 8- and 12-year tax exemption options. New standards will encourage higher-value projects and the redevelopment of underutilized properties, aligning with the City’s Comprehensive Plan goals. An environmental review concluded that the initiative poses no probable adverse environmental impact, eliminating the need for an environmental impact statement. The public has until October 21, 2025, to submit comments on the proposal.

Additionally, appeals regarding this determination can be made until November 4, 2025. The responsible official for this initiative is Nicholas Bond, Director of Community Development. This ordinance reflects the City’s commitment to addressing housing needs and promoting sustainable development.
