Help to Reduce Water Use!

Port Orchard, WALocal News

Port Orchard city officials are asking residents to voluntarily reduce water usage through an odd/even watering schedule due to high demand during drought conditions. Odd-numbered addresses should water on odd days, while even-numbered addresses should water on even days. This practice helps lower peak demand, reducing strain on pumps and treatment systems, and ultimately saving energy and costs for residents. By managing water use more effectively, the city can postpone expensive infrastructure expansions and optimize maintenance operations. The municipal water supply serves over 500,000 gallons daily, and peak summer usage can nearly double that amount.

The city emphasizes the importance of public participation in these conservation efforts to ensure a sustainable water supply. The initiative not only saves money but also helps the environment by reducing water waste and promoting mindful watering habits. Residents are encouraged to attend Council Meetings to provide input on utility decisions affecting drinking water.
