Sidney Road Non-Motorized Improvements

Port Orchard, WALocal News

The City of Port Orchard announced a $1. 4 million grant from the State of Washington to enhance pedestrian safety along Sidney Rd. This initiative, part of the ‘Safe Routes to School’ program, focuses on improvements near Sidney Glen Elementary. Following the completion of a similar phase near Cedar Heights Middle School last year, the project will introduce new sidewalks, improved crossings, planter strips, and bike lanes. City officials express gratitude for residents' patience during construction, emphasizing the project's goal to create a safer environment for students and families.

The funding originates from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which supports climate action through cap-and-invest strategies. This act aims to reduce climate pollution while creating jobs and improving public health. The project reflects ongoing community efforts to prioritize pedestrian safety and accessibility. Enhancements along this corridor will significantly impact local families, fostering a more enjoyable walking experience.
