Arizona fires have consumed almost 30,000 acres this week

Phoenix, AZLocal News

Arizona is facing a critical wildfire situation as five separate fires have burned nearly 30,000 acres in the past week. The Siphon Fire, which has seen a dramatic increase in size, has escalated from 2,350 acres to almost 16,000 acres in just one day and is currently at 0% containment. Firefighting crews are leveraging the capabilities of "super scooper" planes to tackle the flames, particularly in the rugged Superstition Mountains. Meanwhile, the Gate Fire is reported to be 70% contained, enabling the reopening of trails and local roadways in the north Scottsdale region. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has corrected earlier reports regarding the size of the Gate Fire, now confirmed at 1,008 acres due to a GPS glitch.

A "Go" evacuation order remains in place for residents in the Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flats areas, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Officials are actively coordinating their efforts and keeping the public informed on containment progress and safety measures. The community remains on alert as firefighting efforts continue amid challenging conditions.
