Walmart to cut artificial dyes, additives in store brand products. Here's why

Walmart will eliminate synthetic dyes, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives from its private-label brands, including Great Value and Marketside, in response to consumer demand for transparency. The company aims for 90% of its U. S. store brands to be free from synthetic dyes, such as Red 40 and Blue 1. Walmart U.

S. President and CEO John Furner emphasized that this decision strengthens their commitment to affordable, trustworthy food for families. The reformulated products will begin rolling out in the coming months, though some may not be available until early 2027. This initiative aligns with a broader trend in the food industry, as consumers increasingly seek transparency in ingredient lists. A survey indicated that 62% of Walmart customers favor clearer labeling of ingredients.

The removal of these additives may influence other retailers to follow suit, reflecting a growing awareness of food safety and health. As Walmart implements these changes, it could reshape consumer expectations regarding food products.
