Phoenix Children's Hospital has appointed John R. Nickens IV as its new president and CEO, effective October 1, succeeding the retiring Robert Meyer. Nickens, previously the CEO of University Medical Center for LCMC Health in Louisiana, has a strong background in pediatric care, having built a statewide network and launched a significant pediatric behavioral health facility. Meyer, who has led the hospital for 23 years, highlighted the urgent need for improved behavioral health services among patients. Nickens aims to enhance academic partnerships to better train the next generation of clinicians, addressing a critical need in the healthcare system.

Phoenix Children's Hospital, recognized for its prominent main hospital building and logo, operates 50 locations across the Valley and employs around 8,000 staff members. The hospital began in 1983 and has expanded its specialty programs significantly under Meyer's leadership. The transition period in September will involve close collaboration between Nickens and Meyer to ensure operational continuity. This leadership change marks a pivotal moment for the hospital as it addresses evolving healthcare demands.
