Family seeks to reunite with newborn baby found with dead mother in Phoenix apartment

Phoenix, AZLocal News

In May 2025, Phoenix police rescued a newborn girl found severely malnourished next to her deceased mother, Jade Hardin, in an apartment. Officers responded to a welfare check initiated by a concerned neighbor after Hardin had not been seen for several days. Upon arrival, police discovered the baby on a bed, visibly emaciated, and immediately transported her to a hospital where her health significantly improved, and she is now expected to make a full recovery. Hardin's family in Tucson launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking donations to cover funeral expenses and help reunite the baby with her 7-year-old brother. The Arizona Department of Child Safety has been notified and is working with investigators and family members.

As of July 2, the Maricopa County medical examiner had not determined the official cause of Hardin's death. The GoFundMe page reflects the family's grief, with Catherine Hill stating, "Anything is more than appreciated, and we’ll forever be so indebted to your kindness and support in this time of grief. " This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding child welfare and the support systems in place for vulnerable families.
