Police investigating acid attack on transgender woman in West Philly

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Detectives are investigating an acid attack on a 25-year-old transgender woman in West Philadelphia, seeking public assistance to identify three boys involved. The attack occurred on June 1 when the victim, known as Diana, was walking to meet friends for LGBTQ Pride celebrations. She suffered from third- and second-degree burns and is receiving treatment at Temple Burn Center, where she is expected to remain hospitalized for three to four weeks. Diana's GoFundMe campaign has raised over $65,000 to cover her medical expenses and living costs. Authorities believe the suspects are aged 8 to 12 and have released video footage of the boys to solicit tips.

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier condemned the attack, emphasizing the influence of anti-trans sentiment in society. Investigators noted that the boys boarded the Market-Frankford Line after the incident. No arrests have been made, and the police have not provided updates on the investigation.
