Four ways to participate in Phillys 2025 water rate proceedings

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Philadelphia Water Department is seeking a two-year water rate increase to tackle rising operational costs. To facilitate public participation, the Water, Sewer, and Stormwater Rate Board will hold hearings on April 22 and 23, allowing residents to share their views. Individuals can submit comments via email or postal mail, attend public hearings, or engage with the Public Advocate for guidance. The Rate Board, an independent body appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council, is tasked with establishing water rates. It will make its final decision in July after considering all public input and the hearing officer's recommendations.

Residents can also explore various assistance programs to alleviate financial burdens, including discounts for seniors and low-income households. The Tiered Assistance Program (TAP) offers additional support for qualifying individuals. Engaging in this process is crucial for residents affected by potential rate changes.
