City of Philadelphia Announces Water Commissioner Will Depart Post in July
Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner Randy E. Hayman will leave his position on July 18, 2025, to accept a new role as executive director of the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker recognized Hayman's six years of service, emphasizing his significant contributions to reducing sewer overflows through the Green City, Clean Waters program. As of 2021, the city achieved a reduction of over 3 billion gallons in annual average overflow volume, exceeding the required target by more than 1 billion gallons.
Hayman, who previously worked in various legal roles, expressed pride in serving Philadelphia and praised his team's dedication. The Parker administration plans to initiate a national search for Hayman's replacement, with the goal of having a new commissioner in place by mid-July. The Water Department plays a crucial role in providing high-quality drinking water and managing wastewater for the city. This transition comes at a time when effective water management remains vital for Philadelphia's infrastructure. Mayor Parker assured that the department's essential services will continue without interruption during the transition period.
