Safer, cleaner, greener 10 new projects will improve safety and walkability

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced funding for 10 community-led projects aimed at enhancing safety and walkability in Philadelphia. The Health Department partnered with Clean Air Council to award mini grants of up to $2,000 each for initiatives focused on greening, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement. Over 70 applications were submitted by local organizations, highlighting the community's commitment to improving public spaces. A diverse selection committee chose the top 10 projects based on their potential impact on neighborhoods.

Funded initiatives include community gardening efforts, outdoor lighting enhancements, and sidewalk repairs in areas with high chronic disease and violence rates. Notable projects involve porch painting in West Philadelphia and tree planting along commercial corridors. The grants address specific community needs, fostering collaboration and volunteer engagement. These efforts contribute to Mayor Parker’s vision of a safer, cleaner, and greener city.
