City of Philadelphia Expands One Philly Produce Project to All Extended Day, Extended Year Schools, Thanks to Donation from Aramark
Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced the expansion of the One Philly Produce Project, bolstered by an $80,000 donation from Aramark. This initiative aims to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to schools, enhancing food access for thousands of families in Philadelphia. Mayor Parker stressed the significance of ensuring students and families have the resources they need to thrive, both academically and personally. Superintendent Tony B.
Watlington noted that when students are well-fed, they can concentrate better on learning, acknowledging the economic challenges families face. Last year, the project successfully distributed over 105,000 pounds of produce, benefiting an average of 130 families per distribution. With the new funding, the initiative will expand to include an additional 28 schools, effectively tripling the amount of produce distributed. Chief Deputy Mayor Vanessa Garrett-Harley indicated that the project is on track to reach over 300,000 pounds of fresh produce this year. The City of Philadelphia also offers a Food and Meal Finder for residents seeking free food options.
