City of Philadelphia Launches Speed Enforcement Cameras on Broad Street
Philadelphia's Automated Speed Enforcement camera program will expand to Broad Street, launching on September 15, 2025, with a warning period before ticketing begins on November 14. Fines will range from $100 to $150 based on the degree of speeding violations, with no points added to drivers' licenses. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker stressed the importance of this initiative for enhancing road safety, citing the previous success of speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard that cut speeding violations by 95 percent. The program encompasses 15 camera locations along Route 611, identified as having the highest rate of speeding-related crashes and fatalities.
Data from 2020 to 2024 indicated 206 fatal and serious injury crashes on Broad Street, underscoring the need for enforcement. In December 2023, legislation made the ASE pilot program permanent and allowed expansion to more corridors and school zones for increased safety. The surplus revenue will be directed to a transportation safety fund managed by PennDOT, supporting local safety projects. This initiative aims to align with Philadelphia's Vision Zero goal of reducing traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
