Inaugural North Philadelphia History Festival celebrates the spirit of its community
The inaugural North Philadelphia History Festival will unfold from July 24 to 27, offering a vibrant celebration of the area's cultural heritage through a variety of free events. Scribe Video Center, led by founder Louis Massiah, organizes this festival to honor the resilience of North Philadelphia's community, which has held global significance since the 19th century. Festival highlights include a tribute concert for Grover Washington Jr. , an archival photo installation, and a community panel focused on preserving Black historic districts. Programming also features a mobile concert, a classic car parade, and an outdoor video installation that combines oral histories with archival photographs.
This festival aims to engage locals and visitors alike in exploring the rich cultural tapestry woven by African American and Puerto Rican communities. All events will be free, with registration recommended to manage attendance. The festival reflects a growing interest in celebrating local history and culture, encouraging community involvement and recognition of the area's contributions.
