Jersey City Man Sentenced in Connection with Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in Montville

Nasir Moses, 20, of Jersey City, received a five-year prison sentence for eluding police and receiving stolen property linked to a stolen vehicle chase. On July 9, 2023, a Lincoln Park officer attempted to stop a stolen BMW, which sped away, resulting in a pursuit that ended with Moses fleeing on foot after the vehicle crashed. Four of the five occupants were detained, while Moses escaped but was later identified as the driver. The BMW was reported stolen from New York, and additional stolen items were recovered from the vehicle. Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll acknowledged the efforts of the Montville and Lincoln Park police departments in this case.

Assistant Prosecutor Matthew W. Kelly oversaw the prosecution. The incident raises concerns about vehicle theft and police engagement in the region. Local authorities remain vigilant as they address such criminal activities.
