Volunteers in Parsippany-Troy Hills delivered over 4,500 pounds of food to the Parsippany Food Pantry as part of the Sewa Diwali initiative. This effort, which began in 2018, promotes the belief that "Service to Humanity is Service to Divinity," and aims to collect 1 million pounds of food this year across 38 states. The township's contributions included 5,900 pounds to the Interfaith Food Pantry and 1,800 pounds to the Montville Kiwanis Food Pantry. A coalition of community organizations, including local schools and religious groups, powered the collection. Mayor James Barberio commended the volunteers for their profound impact on residents facing challenges during the holiday season.

He emphasized the critical importance of annual drives in keeping local food pantries stocked. Sewa Diwali has grown significantly, now involving over 250 partner organizations nationwide. The initiative underscores the community's commitment to supporting those in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas.
